Dakota Edwards

Dakota Edwards won conference titles all four years of his soccer playing career at the University of Maryland. He brings that successful pedigree to the New York Tech women’s soccer program.

Edwards, who won two Atlantic Coast Conference and two Big Ten postseason titles with the Terrapins from 2012 through 2015, joined Karim Diallo’s staff at Tech for the 2019 season.

He primarily focuses on the defensive side.

A center back at Maryland, Edwards’ lone collegiate goal came in the ACC Championship game as a freshman, when he finished a corner kick in an eventual 2-1 win over North Carolina. He subsequently was named to the ACC Championship all-tournament team.

“I was a freshman coming in, playing at a very high level,” Edwards said. “Scoring the first goal of the game was pretty exciting.”

Edwards played prep soccer for Sayville High School. He first met Diallo while playing youth soccer.

Edwards has been involved for the past three years with the Smithtown Kickers/Slammers youth soccer program.

“I’ve known Karim since I was a kid,” Edwards said. “He used to coach with a good friend of mine. We did summer camps, and Karim would coach me every now and then. Eventually we linked up.”
