MKsc Academy Winter Indoor Select Tournament Rules

Length of games:  Two 25 minute halves, two minute halftime
Referees will not stop the clock for injuries and may shorten the game to keep the tournament on schedule.

Number of Players: U10 plays 7 field players and a goalkeeper (8v8)
U11/12 play 6 field players and a goalkeeper (7v7)
U13 and up – 5 field players and a goalkeeper (6v6)

Team Rosters and Waivers:  A Roster/Wavier form must be submitted when the team checks in before their first game and NO changes can be made after that time. The form must include all players participating in the tournament, their date of birth and a parent’s signature with phone number.  Proof of age must be presented with the Roster/Waiver form.  A player can only play with one team.  Teams are limited to 18 players.

Tournament Check-in:  Teams must check-in at least 30 minutes before the first game to handle all paperwork.  Roster/Wavier forms and proof of age will be required.  Any updates will be communicated at that time also.

Game Information:
Home teams (listed first on the schedule) will change jerseys in case of color conflicts.
Home team kicks-off and defends the east goal.
Teams provide the game ball - size 4 ball for U10, U11 and U12, size 5 ball for U13 and older

Substitutes:  Substitutes occur on the fly – neither the substitute nor the player coming off the field can be involved in active play during the substitution or seeking to gain an attacking advantage by the substitution. A player with blood on his/her body or uniform must leave the field.  The bleeding must be stopped, the site must be covered with a bandage, and the uniform washed or replaced, as fits the situation, before the player may return.

Out of Bounds:  Perimeter (netting) or ceiling ball is put back into play with a direct free kick from the spot where the ball was last played by the offending team.

Goal Kick:  Play begins when the goalkeeper obtains possession of the ball in their hands inside the penalty area.  Once the goalkeeper gives up hand control by placing the ball on the ground or distributing the ball in the air, the ball is in play.

Free Kicks:  All free kicks are direct with no exceptions.  A minor infraction (indirect outdoors) that occurs in the penalty area will result in a free kick at the top of the arc above the penalty area.  Opposing teams must yield 15 feet. Teams have 5 seconds to get the ball in play from the time the referee prompts for the kick.

Goalkeeper Restrictions:  No pass backs.  The goalkeeper has 5 seconds to get rid of the ball after he or she picks it up with their hands.  Punting is not permitted.  A team has 10 seconds to move the ball from its own defensive “third” of the field.

Fouls and Misconduct:  FIFA rules apply.  A foul outdoors is a foul indoors. Slide tackling on a player is prohibited.  Offside does not apply indoors. Denying a goal scoring opportunity is not a mandatory red card, but can be deemed so by the referee.

Three Line Pass:  The ball cannot be kicked, in the air, over all three lines towards the attacking goal, without touching the wall, the floor, any player or the referee. This results in a direct free kick on the center of the white line closest to the point of the infraction.  The goalkeeper may throw the ball over all three lines.

Extra Player:  When a team leads by 5 or more goals, the loosing team may put one extra player on the field.

Time Penalties:
  • Blue Card- results in a 2 minute penalty or until the opposing team scores, whichever comes first.
  • Yellow Card- results in a 3 minute penalty or expires when the opposing team scores, whichever comes first.
  • Red Card- results in an automatic suspension of the player and a “hard” 5 minute penalty, meaning the team plays short for the full 5 minutes.  A Red Card will also result in the minimum of a one game suspension for the player.

Discipline:  All Red and Yellow Cards will be reported to the Tournament Director.
Red Carded players must leave the field and the park immediately.  The players will be suspended for at least one game.  Three Blue Cards or Two Yellow Cards in the same game also result in a Red Card.  Any player receiving a combination of three (blue/yellow) cards during the tournament may be suspended for the remainder of the event.

Scoring: 3 points for a win, 1 point for a tie, 0 points for a loss

Tie Breakers:  In case of a tie in points, the following tie-breakers will be used:
  • Head to Head
  • Goal Differential (goals for minus goals against, maximum of 4 per game)
  • Fewest Goals Allowed
  • Most Goals Scored
  • Coin Toss

 Overtime:
  1. The game will be played in one-minute sudden death periods.
  2. Only the players on the field at the end of the game will be allowed to participate in the overtime.
  3. Each minute period will be started with a drop ball at midfield.
  4. Each team will remove one player after each one-minute period in which no one scores.
  5. There are no substitutions allowed.
  • If a player is injured during a period his/her team plays short for the remainder of the period.
  • If an injury occurs in a situation where a card has been issued, the team with the injured player may substitute.
  • If the game is at goalkeeper vs. goalkeeper then the team with the injured player forfeits due to being unable to field a team.
  1. After the tiebreaker reaches 2v2 you may only score from within your attacking third of the field.
  2. You may change your goalkeeper at the end of each minute period among the players that are on the field.
  3. If a penalty is called for a breakaway foul that denies a goal scoring opportunity, the offending player is ejected for the rest of that one minute where the foul occurred. If the foul happens when the game is goalkeeper vs. goalkeeper the offending team forfeits the game.

Awards:  Awards will be distributed immediately after the final game in a group to the 1st and 2nd place teams.

Tournament Director/Committee and Referee Authority:  All referee decisions are final.  No protests are allowed.  The decisions of the Tournament Director/Committee are final.
